A 2012 trial assigned 109 men aged 30 to 55 to 300 mg daily of Physta tongkat ali extract in capsules or placebo for 12 weeks.
Erectile function scores improved compared with placebo, although average scores were already in the range classed as no dysfunction. Some measures of sexual interest improved over time. The groups did not differ significantly in average libido or satisfaction scores at the final visit.
The manufacturer funded the study. It did not test Norliven oral strips or what happens after one use.

A four week trial studied 63 moderately stressed adults. A standardized tongkat ali extract was associated with changes in selected mood scores and salivary hormone measures.
